Richard Murphy

I am interested in traditional craft and employing it in a contemporary context. I find woodturning very engaging and I enjoy the process of removing material to reveal beautiful features hidden within the wood because this gives my work spontaneity and can positively change a piece.

I am currently exploring a range of mixed media to be used as integral elements within my turned forms. The wood I turn is unseasoned wet wood, this means as the vessels dry they can warp, split and move. Once dry the metal adornments are added to give each piece a distinctive quality.
